If you’re looking for some gaming action this Halloween weekend, look no farther than RinCon ’08 in Tucson, Arizona Oct 31st through Nov 2nd. It is being put on by the Southern Arizona Gamers Association. With the just announced demise of Phoenix Con Games (who haven’t posted any info about it on their web site yet) and HexaCon being on hiatus, this looks to be the biggest gaming event going on in Arizona now.
Originally scheduled for October 25 & 26 at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, AdventureCon has announced a month out that they have moved the convention to May 30 & 31, 2009.
On their web site, they posted the following announcement:
“During this week’s Board meeting, it was discussed at great length postponing our upcoming AdventureCon event from October 25-26 in Glendale, AZ to spring 2009. The new dates for the show will be May 30-31, 2009. We are sorry for the inconvenience that this may cause but we feel that this change will benefit all parties involved.
The current economy, gas prices and upcoming election were some of the determining factors. We have also heard concerns from our dealers as well as several national corporate sponsors who are unable to attend/participate at the October event, but would be able to be part of a spring 2009 event. We know the importance of a successful first show. The first show sets precedence for the future. At the requests of dozens of emails from fans we will be adding exciting additions that we will be announcing in the upcoming weeks. These additions will include more guests and special programming.
”
It was going to be interesting to see how the convention would do as an outside group coming in. I guess we’ll have to wait a few more months now.
The annual Horror/SciFi Film Festival has changed venues for this year’s event, moving to the Chandler Cinemas at 2140 N. Arizona Avenue in Chandler. It is being held the weekend of Oct 23-26th. They’ve recently updated their web site with new information including news of their first announced guest, Jeffrey Combs. He’s being honored for the film Re-Animator, which the festival will be screening on Saturday night. Star Trek fans will know Jeff from his roles as Weyoun and Brunt on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and the Andorian Shran on Enterprise as well as Kevin Burkhoff on The 4400. They will be screening the original versions of The Blob and Friday the 13th as well as the weekly screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. They will also have a variety of science fiction and horror films as part of the film festival. It is sponsored by the Phoenix Film Foundation.
